It’s November!
After wrapping up October with a spooky Halloween workshop and some fun Instagram posts, we now welcome November! Is it just us, or has this year flown by far too quickly?
Citrine & Diamond Necklace
November is filled with exciting events, starting with the vibrant celebration of Diwali from 31st October to 1st November, followed by the dazzling warmth of bonfires and array of colourful fireworks on Guy Fawkes Night on the 5th—fingers crossed for dry weather! Parades and festivities will be lighting up the evening and it gives us a chance to enjoy the late autumn evenings wrapped up in cosy knitwear and comfy boots.
As we pause for Remembrance Sunday on the 10th, it’s a moment of reflection and gratitude. Wearing your ruby red poppies and poppy inspired jewellery, we honour our Armed Forces personnel and Veterans for their service and sacrifice.
Midway through the month His Majesty King Charles III will be celebrating his 76th birthday on November 14th.
Towards the end of the month, on November 23rd-24th, The London Gem and Mineral Show takes place at Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher. Open to the public as well as trade for just £10, it’s a must-visit for gem and crystal enthusiasts! With interactive activities, including the chance to crack open your own geodes, it's sure to be a day filled with sparkle and fun.
Finally, the month concludes with our American friends and customers celebrating Thanksgiving on November 28th, a time of reflection, gratitude, and shared feasts.
However you are celebrating in the month of November there are plenty of reasons to dress up and enjoy showing off your jewellery. If you would like it in time for Christmas we need to have things finalised by the end of November. November Jewels: Citrines and Signet Rings: Bask in the golden glow!
November's birthstone is topaz, specifically yellow/golden topaz, but citrine is also commonly associated with this month. Both stones are known for their vibrant yellow to golden hues, making them popular choices for November jewellery. Here's a little more about each stone:
1. Topaz:
Colour: Warm or cold? Topaz ranges from clear, yellow, blue, to pink and red varieties. Yellow or golden topaz is the traditional stone for November. Honey yellow. Fiery orange. Cyclamen pink. Icy blue—take your pick!
Symbolism: Topaz is believed to bring warmth, joy, and prosperity. It's associated with love, affection, and protection against harm.
Jewellery Ideas: Topaz is commonly used in rings, pendants, earrings, and bracelets, often in polished cuts or faceted for extra sparkle. The golden hue pairs beautifully with gold or silver settings.

Topaz is pleochroic, meaning that the gem can show different colours in different crystal directions
Some scholars trace the origin back to Sanskrit (an ancient language of India) and the word topas or tapaz, meaning “fire.”
Faceted topaz takes such a high polish it’s slightly slippery to the touch. It ranks number 8 on the Moh’s Hardness Scale making it a great gem for rings and other jewellery pieces.
2. Citrine:
Colour: A warm, honey-golden or amber hue. Citrine can be a lighter or deeper yellow, sometimes with orange tones. The name citrine comes from an old French word "citrin," meaning lemon although it appears more as an earthy golden colour right through to deep reddish orange and brownish amber perfect to match the autumn season.
Symbolism: Known as the "success stone," citrine is thought to attract abundance, joy, and positivity. It's a symbol of vitality and energy.
Jewellery Ideas: Citrine is popular in minimalist or statement jewellery, such as studs, drop earrings, and pendants. It looks great set in either white gold or yellow gold.

Citrine comes from the same family as amethyst: Quartz. A trace of iron in citrine’s structure is responsible for its yellow-to-orange colour and it ranks a 7 on the Moh’s Hardeness Scale.
Citrine is attributed with two divine deities: Demeter, the Greek goddess of harvest who is associated with productivity and Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war who is associated with power.
Most citrine is mined in Brazil. Small quantities of citrine are found in Russia, Colorado, Madagascar, Bolivia, Burma (Myanmar), Canada, Sri Lanka, Spain, and U.S.

Definitely the Lindsay graver! Like Recto said, it’s a game changer! It is so helpful and makes my job so much easier! Trying to engrave by hand takes so long and this allows us to create beautiful patterns on the metal in less time.

I love rings best. Setting stones in rings is rewarding and I love fishtail settings the most. Those are my favourite.

Well rings I already mentioned but I love engraving the shank. Combining beautiful stones and engraved shanks is my favourite. I just love ornate details and creating something unique and beautiful. You can appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into it and you just don’t get that on mass-made jewellery. Ornate engraving also helps to hide the scratches and scuff marks that accrue over time keeping the ring looking beautiful. Everyone wants modern, contemporary and minimalist designs these days so it is really nice to work on something with detail and that is more filigree.

I think emerald. I love any green stones to be honest. Green is just beautiful. But emeralds are really pretty. When you look through the microscope you can see so much going on inside the gemstone and there is a sense of pride and accomplishment if you can set an emerald without breaking it! They are brittle and hard to work with! You have to respect the stone and have patience.
