Halloween is on the horizon and fast approaching! Like good and evil or naughty and nice, we decided to do two posts for Halloween this year. When it comes to spooktacular gems there is so much we could write about so we thought we would separate them into pumpkin spice and all things nice versus dark and bad and all things mad. Stay tuned for our next article on the world’s most infamous cursed gems coming out on 31st October but for now we’ll start you off with fashioning some fun for those fancy dress parties! Do you have your costumes ready? Don’t worry if not, we’re here to help you get ready with some gemmy jewels to really elevate your Halloween look. Witches and Wizards

When it comes to witchcraft and wizardry unleash your secret powers with these bewitchingly gorgeous gems. Adorn dark moody purple-black cloaks with rich amethysts and purple sapphires. Add in some bright green tourmalines to match your witchy green hair and nails.

For gathering up newts and frogs for cauldrons and conjuring up colour changing potions and charms you need alexandrite or sphene, and the powers of mystic topaz will really emphasise those magical vibes. Adorn those spellbinding fingers with a stunning star sapphire or star ruby ring to echo dark starry nights and reel in universal powers.

Gemstones: Amethyst, green tourmalines, star sapphires, sphene, alexandrite, mystic topaz

Werewolves

Furry creatures on full moons with amber-citrine eyes glowing in the dark, dress up your wolverine look with gorgeous cat’s eye cabochon gems, black and gold rutilated quartz or should we say mutilated quartz (bowahahahaha!) that resemble strands of golden hair and claw marks. Add in some golden topaz and chocolate / caramel diamonds for those golden brown hues to add some sparkle and shine to your howling halloween fun!

Gemstones: Chatoyancy gems, black / gold rutilated quartz, citrine eyes, amber, imperial golden topaz

Vampires

When it comes to vampires we love the romantic tales of gothic Transylvania and all the allure of eternal life created by Count Dracula’s bite. When twilight falls command the room by accessorizing those blood-red lined capes with stunning powerful red gems like rubies and spinels. Add in romantic pinky-red tourmalines and orangey-red autumn garnets to bring some fire and passion to the dark dead of Halloween night.

Gemstones: Rubies, garnets, red spinels, pinkish-red tourmalines

Bats and Black Cats

The colour black is bold, independent, strong, self-assured and powerfully elegant just like prowling black cats and flying winged bats. Command authority and accentuate this confidence by adding sparkling black diamond colliers with faceted jet rings and sleek silver bangles to your feline outfits or go for a matte onyx ring or dark blue sapphires for a sleek sophisticated look. Add in one large piece of colour like a tsavourite garnet cocktail ring for bright green cats’ eyes or bright blue topaz to make a powerful statement and contrast against the dark coal. If you want some blue-shimmer fun, try mixing in some labradorite jewellery for some cool glare.

Gemstones: Onyx, black diamonds, obsidian, dark blue-black sapphires, salt and pepper diamonds, black rutilated (mutilated) quartz, cats eye, tsavorite garnet, jet, labradorite, blue topaz

Ghosts and Mummies

White sheets and cream bandages scream mummies and spooky ghouls. Ghosts with their translucent, misty shadows mimicking mirages and fading in and out make moonstones the perfect accessory with their cryptic play of light and moonlight glow from within. They possess a hazy, milky glow with flashes of soft blue like moonlight on water when you move them in certain directions disappearing and reappearing frequently. Maybe we should call it a ghost stone instead? Mummies can revel in fun, bold opals whether white or rainbow for added fun. It was believed that wearing opals would make the wearer invisible in certain situations! Opaque or semi translucent opals are a fun way to jazz up your white costumes but you can’t go wrong with diamonds either. Fiery sparkle, stunning white gems will elevate your costume to Royal Egyptian mummy level adding brilliance and dazzle to plain whites.

Gemstones: Moonstones, opals, diamonds

Frankenstein

When it comes to all things green we’ve got you covered! Whether you’re a Hulk, alien, Ghostbusters’ Slime or a Frankenstein this year you can dress up those green outfits with stunning emeralds, and tourmalines in all shades. Add in some vibrant bright Tsavorite garnets for sparkle and shine or go darker with chrome diopside. If you want neons try peridot for that pop of colour. Mix with some red spinels or garnets or bloodstone for a stunning contrast and flash of superpowers.

Gemstones: Green tourmalines, tsavorite garnets, chrome diopside, peridot, bloodstone

Pumpkins

Scary spooks are not for everyone so if you’re going for a cute pumpkin look this harvest and bonfire season then jump into fire opals and orangey-red carnelians with their glassy lustres and sunburst energy. Burnt orange ember fire opals and orange sapphires pair well with neutral Earth tones. Add in some dark green tourmaline for pumpkin leaves and gold for those golden leaves and you’re all set for autumn.

Gemstones: Fire opals, orange sapphires, carnelian

Stay tuned for our dark and bad and all things mad post coming soon!
